I have a deep understanding of the principles and application of use of force. As a Lead Trainer in specialist operations, I instructed officers at all levels in personal safety, self-defence, and legal frameworks, including the National Decision-Making Model (NDM).
My work extended beyond training, guiding high-risk detention and extradition teams, ‘overseeing the movement of terrorist and dangerous criminal individuals in custody to court and then prison using high security tactics. I played a key role in developing training programs now used nationally, ensuring officers and staff maintain competence, confidence, and tactical effectiveness.
Additionally, my expertise in Trauma Risk Intervention Management (TRIM) ensures support for individuals affected by critical incidents—an area I continue to focus on beyond retirement.
FIRST AID
I am also a qualified first aid instructor and I deliver this training to several police forces throughout the UK.
Experience
With 25 years of frontline policing and specialist training experience, I have honed my expertise in personal safety, use of force, and risk management. As a Lead Trainer for GMP, I developed scenario-based training programs now used nationwide, instructing officers from recruits to elite counter-terrorism teams. I’ve produced expert witness reports for Barristers and Solicitors throughout the UK. I have also recently produced reports for several organisations in the Republic of Ireland.
My qualifications—ranging from Use of Force Expert Witness accreditation to HRDET leadership and Trauma Risk Intervention Management—reinforce my ability to provide practical, evidence-based training.
I have assessed civil litigation claims, advised on police conduct, and led high-risk detention operations, ensuring compliance with law and best practices. Now, through Carmody Consultancy, I apply this extensive experience to equip professionals and businesses with bespoke, effective safety training tailored to real-world security challenges.
