Mr Martin Heaton, FRCS MD FRCS(Plast) Consultant Plastic Surgeon 2 Professional qualifications: I qualified BM BS from the University of Nottingham Medical School in 1992.

Whilst a medical student, I completed a BMedSci intercalated degree attaining an upper 2nd.

I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996 and subsequently obtained a doctorate (MD) from the University of Sheffield in 2003 for research into reconstructed skin.

I passed the Intercollegiate Speciality Board examination in plastic surgery in 2006 and was awarded FRCS(PLAST).

I was added to the GMC specialist register in plastic surgery in 2008.

NHS Consultant appointments: I was appointed a locum consultant plastic surgeon at the Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2009 specialising in breast reconstruction.

I was appointed to a substantive consultant at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Foundation NHS Trust in July 2010.

Private practice: Mr Heaton works entirely within the NHS Experience: Management of head and neck cancer and skin cancer. Reconstruction of post-traumatic and post-treatment tissue defects of all parts of the body using the full range of plastic surgery techniques including microsurgery. Assessment and management of scars and complex wounds. Treatment of hand injuries.

Presentations: I have presented, chaired sessions and been invited faculty at a variety of plastic surgery, head and neck and skin cancer meetings.

Expert witness training: I have attended the Bond Solon ‘Excellence in Report Writing' course. Medico-legal report writing experience: I regularly prepare and write reports for the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman and the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (8 – 10 cases per annum). I am an approved expert witness for the General Medical Council (3 – 4 cases per annum). Membership of expert witness organisations: National Expert Witness Association and The Federation of Forensic and Expert Witnesses 2019-2020
