Dr Zbigniew M Kirkor – Consultant in Pain Medicine & Anaesthesia


I work at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, Shropshire. I run a busy Pain Clinic there. I
consult about forty new patients per month and carry out around fifty interventional pain
procedures per month. I take referrals from general practitioners and other consultants. I
treat broad variety of painful conditions: back and neck mechanical pain, Whiplash-
Associated Disorders, sciatica, neuropathic pain, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, post-
injury pain, fibromyalgia and other.

I qualified from Medical University in Gdansk, Poland in 1987. I completed my anaesthetic
training in 1994 and I held several consultant positions in Poland. In 2005 I moved to the
UK, where I joined Pain Clinic at Stoke Mandeville Hospital (National Spine Injury Centre).
In 2008 I took a six month locum consultant position there and then I moved to Harlow
where I have established Pain Service at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. In
September 2010 I moved to Telford where I have been appointed a Consultant in
Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine and have become Clinical Lead for Pain Services at
Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals NHS Trust since 2011.

I have published several papers in peer reviewed medical journals. I obtained my Ph.D. in
1996. I am involved in teaching and training both in the UK and abroad. I am a member of
Education Special Interest Group of International Association for the Study of Pain. My
special interest is interventional pain medicine, whiplash injury, Whiplash Associated
Disorders (WAD) and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I am a member of World Institute
of Pain, International Association for the Study of Pain, International Spine Interventions
Society, Neuromodulation Society of the UK and NI, British Medical Acupuncture Society. I
am an Associate Fellow of Royal College of Anaesthetists.

I have completed Medico-Legal Expert Witness Course in 2011 and have obtained The
Bond Solon Civil Procedure Rules for Expert Witness Certificate in 2012. Recently I
attended a Bond Solon course “The Jackson Reforms: What they mean for the expert
witness” (April 2013). I am a member of Medico – Legal Society and I am an Accredited

Mediator (Civil Mediation Council). I am also an APIL Expert (Association of Personal
Injury Lawyers).
