Dr Lucinda Cockayne
Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Cockayne is a locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Liaison Psychiatry with NHS Lothian, having recently retired from her full time post. She has a wealth of experience working in General Adult Psychiatry, and Substance Misuse. She was Lead Clinician for the Fife Substance Misuse Services prior to her retirement.
Her work in treating drug and alcohol misuse and dependence was based in both community and in-patient settings. The scope of her work has also included liaison psychiatry and Perinatal psychiatry.
Dr Cockayne is a Designated Medical Practitioner for the Mental Welfare (Scotland) Commission (MWC). She prepares reports for the Nursing and Midwifery council on fitness to practice, and has taken similar instructions from the GMC and RPS.
She has worked on a range of matters including medical negligence, personal injury, criminal cases and assessments for guardianship. She has also been instructed by the Forces to provide assessments of the mental health of veterans.
Dr Cockayne accepts medicolegal instructions in her area of expertise. Her specialist interests include:
- treatment of opioid and alcohol dependence,
- use of opioid antagonists,
- detoxification,
- ADHD, ADD and management of dual diagnosis.
