Mr Vijay Joshi
MBChB, LL.B (Hons), FRCSEd (C-Th), PGCert (Medical Law)
Vijay Joshi is a Consultant in Thoracic Surgery and an Expert Witness. He is currently
in full-time practice in Manchester. He is instructed by both Claimants and Defendants
on cases of clinical negligence and personal injury. He has completed the Bond Solon
expert witness course and holds a CUBS certificate in Civil Law. Mr Joshi has
experience in joint expert meetings, criminal cases, single joint expert cases, regulatory
cases, and has experience giving evidence in court. He holds a post-graduate certificate
in Medical Law and earned an LL.B (Honours) from Nottingham Law School.He has won prizes in both Medicine and Law; such as the Robert Roaf Scholarship,
Gold Award for surgical training, Silver Award for teaching, a Clinical Excellence Award
as well as the Thomson Reuters Law Prize for achieving the highest-grade in his penultimate academic year in Law School.
As a pure Thoracic Surgeon, Mr Joshi specialises in all aspects of the thorax (outside of
the oesophagus, heart and great vessels). Additionally, pure Thoracic Surgeons are the
last stop in the referral chain for isolated chest wall related injuries and lung
trauma, making Mr Joshi a very credible expert in personal injury cases.
Mr Joshi has extensive experience in cases associated with:
- General thoracic surgery
- Open and VATS “Keyhole” lobectomy
- Minimally invasive surgery
- Lung cancer surgery, including delayed diagnosis and prognostic
implications - Pleural surgery: Empyema and lung / chest cavity infections
Pneumothorax, failed pleurodesis, trapped lung - Thymic surgery, including cases involving Thymoma and/or Myasthenia
Gravis - Diaphragm palsy and hernia
- Chest wall sarcoma – resection and reconstruction, prognostic
implications - Lung volume reduction – Surgery and Endobronchial Valves

- Complex and high-risk thoracic surgery

Mr Joshi’s appointment availability is from 4-6 weeks, and he has a report turnaround
time of 4-8 weeks.
