Qualified Meteorological/Oceanographical Observer, Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy & British Weather Services.

I gained my meteorological & oceanographical qualifications in the Fleet Air Arm of the British Royal Navy and served on various ships and land-based stations until late 1985 – observing, plotting and providing data & forecasts for aircrews, captains and other officers, which encompassed two lengthy spells in the Falklands & South Georgia
I then served for 2.5 years as a meteorological consultant at marine firm based in London, observing, plotting and forecasting the weather globally, for the media and many other recipients. In October 1987, I formed my own company, British Weather Services, and amongst a host of differing meteorological & oceanographical tasks ever since, from a legal perspective I have provided and continue to provide expert witness reports, site investigations, expert evidence to courts / insurance companies, the police, coroners and other legal concerns.
During the past 35+ years, along with BWS colleagues, I gained daily experience of assessing, predicting and logging of weather conditions at site specific global stadia across numerous sporting concerns for the world’s biggest sports betting company & others. During the not-too-distant past I provided my services to F1GP & the Ford World Rally team, observing and forecasting weather and track / road conditions for the team, which involved accounting for and prediction of rainfall impact and ice formation/cessation on surfaces.
For the past 3 years I have provided regular and extensive expert meteorological opinion / commentary to the broadcast media (radio, TV & print), including the BBC (various), Sky News, Channel 5, GB News, Talk TV, LBC / LBC News, Times Radio and others. I am perceived as being very knowledgeable within my industry, covering weather & climate stories across the U.K. and the rest of the world, including political and economic takes. I am flexible, fleet of foot, make myself available for interviews & provide media commentary at short notice.
In July 2020 I wrote the business book – ‘Weather or Not? – The Personal and Commercial Impacts of Weather and Climate’ (LID Business Publishing, London), which explains how and why the weather impacts just about all aspects of our lives. A second very recently published book, authored with US Survivalist Mykel Hawke & published by Skyhorse Publishing, New York is now available will be available in the U.S. March 2024 & the U.K. April 2024 entitled ‘Surviving Extreme Weather – The Complete Climate Change Preparedness Manual’.

Experience and Qualification: I gained my meteorological observers qualification in the Fleet Air Arm of Royal Navy in 1982 and served on various ships and land based stations until late 1985 – observing, plotting and providing meteorological data & forecasts for helicopter aircrews and others. I then served for 2 years as a meteorological consultant at Noble Denton in London, observing, plotting and forecasting the weather globally. In December 1987 I formed my own company, namely British Weather Services; and amongst a host of differing meteorological tasks since, I have provided expert witness meteorological reports, site investigations and evidence to courts, insurance companies and other concerns on numerous occasions to-date. During the past 20 years I have gained daily experience of assessing, predicting and logging of weather conditions at site specific global stadia for numerous sporting concerns; and during the recent past I provided my services to the Ford World Rally team, observing and forecasting weather and road conditions for the team, which involved accounting for and prediction of wind speeds, rainfall impact and ice formation/cessation on road surfaces. I also provide expert meteorological opinion to the broadcast media (radio, TV and newspapers) on an ongoing basis, as I am perceived as being very knowledgeable within my industry, both in the UK and abroad. In 2020, I published a business book entitled ‘Weather or Not? – The Personal & Commercial Impacts of Weather & Climate’, in which a chapter is devoted to the subject of various weather impacts and legal disputes. I am also the co-author of a second international book, concerning safety and survival during hazardous weather events, namely ‘Surviving Extreme Weather’, which has very recently been published. I am also a vetted APIL Expert Witness.
